The American Bar Foundation named William P. Farthing, Jr., Managing Partner of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, as a Fellow. The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation – limited to one third of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction – is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges and law professors whose professional, public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession.

Established in 1955, The Fellows support the research work of the American Bar Foundation through their annual contributions and sponsor seminars and events of direct relevance to leaders of the legal profession. Fellows are nominated by members in their jurisdiction and are elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation based on demonstrated outstanding achievements and dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession.

Past Parker Poe recipients of the honor include Irvin W. “Hank” Hankins III, James Y. Preston and Mark R. Bernstein.

Mr. Farthing, recently re-elected to a third term as Parker Poe's Managing Partner, serves as Chairman of the Firm's Board of Directors and as Chief Executive Officer. In these roles, he works to establish and implement the Firm's strategic directions and oversees day-to-day management and operations with the assistance of the administrative management.

Under Mr. Farthing’s direction, Parker Poe has been one of the fastest growing firms in the country – having grown by more than 50 percent – and has received national recognition for its quality of service in numerous practice areas. The Firm has received awards in both North Carolina and South Carolina for its diversity and community service efforts. This month, U.S. News & World Report named Parker Poe as a top-tier law firm with number-one rankings in more than 20 areas of legal service.

Mr. Farthing is a member of the Board of Directors for Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont as well as the Board of Advisors for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he has served on the Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee, Finance Committee and the Board of Visitors for Johnson C. Smith University, where he currently serves as University Attorney. He also served for a decade on the Charlotte Repertory Theatre’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
