Parker Poe Adds Three Attorneys to Internal Investigations Group

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)—Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP announced today that Eric H. Cottrell, W.C. Turner Herbert and Annette K. Ebright joined the firm’s Internal Investigations, Compliance & White Collar Criminal Defense group in its Charlotte office. All three were previously with the international law firm Mayer Brown LLP.

Eric Cottrell practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation and internal investigations with a focus on representing companies in investigations relating to alleged violations of export control laws. Mr. Cottrell regularly represents companies that are the subject of government and regulatory inquiries. In addition, he has conducted more than a dozen internal investigations involving alleged violations of the ITAR, EAR, AECA, IEEPA, and OFAC regulations, including alleged exports to countries such as Sudan, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Cottrell’s commercial litigation practice includes representation of financial institutions, manufacturers, professional service firms and health care providers in commercial contract disputes, financial services litigation, securities litigation, trade secret litigation, and product liability defense. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law (JD, with honors, 1995) and Wake Forest University (BA, cum laude, 1992), where he was a Carswell Scholar.

Turner Herbert is a litigator in the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense & Internal Investigations Group. Mr. Herbert has extensive experience conducting internal investigations for clients operating in highly regulated industries, both domestically and overseas. His experience includes identifying and assessing potential exposure under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), federal export and firearms laws. Recently, Mr. Herbert was the Lead associate representing a government contractor operating throughout the Middle East. His responsibilities included conducting dozens of witness interviews, assessing potential FCPA exposure and coordinating document productions in response to more than 70 subpoenas from numerous governmental agencies.

Mr. Herbert is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina. In 2006, Mr. Herbert was named Young Lawyer of the Year by the Mecklenburg County Bar’s Young Lawyers Section. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law (JD, 2004), the University of St. Andrews (MLitt, 2000) and Davidson College (BA, with honors, 1998).

Annette Ebright practices in the areas of white collar criminal defense and internal investigations as well as complex commercial litigation. In addition, Ms. Ebright counsels clients on shareholder disputes, Section 1983 actions, and has managed both civil and criminal multi-million document e-discovery cases. She has assisted in multiple internal investigations related to export compliance, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and federal firearms laws. Ms. Ebright previously represented 15 foreign telecommunications carriers in a patent infringement action alleging infringement of patents on international text and SMS messaging.

Ms. Ebright is admitted to the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law (JD, with honors, 2007) and Ohio State University (BA, magna cum laude, 1995).
