(RALEIGH, N.C.)—Cynthia L. Wittmer, a partner in the Raleigh office of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, was named the 2011 Joseph Branch Professionalism Award recipient by the Wake County Bar Association. The award recognizes the highest standards of professionalism among Wake County lawyers. She joins J. Allen Adams, a retired of counsel in the Firm’s Raleigh office, as the second person from Parker Poe to receive the award.
Selected by a committee of peers, the annual award is presented to a member of the Wake County Bar Association whose ethics, integrity and service to clients, the community and the Bar mirror the high standards set by the late Joseph Branch, former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Ms. Wittmer focuses her practice in the area of commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on business torts, intellectual property disputes, health care-related contract issues and life insurance defense. She has represented numerous clients in both state and federal courts in North Carolina. Ms. Wittmer has been named to Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America and North Carolina Super Lawyers. She has also been the recipient of the Wake County Bar Association President’s Award of Excellence in 1993, 1998, 2004, 2006, and 2007.
Ms. Wittmer is serving her second term as State Bar Councilor for the Tenth Judicial District and was Chair of the district’s Grievance Committee for three years. Additionally, she was a founding member of the judicial district’s Fee Arbitration Committee, serving as Chair for more than seven years. She served as an appointed member of the North Carolina General Statutes Commission from 2008-2010. Among other things, she has been active in establishing resources for attorneys with breast cancer.
Ms. Wittmer received her JD, with honors, from Duke University and her BA, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
