Business North Carolina Names 12 Parker Poe Attorneys Among 2019 Legal Elite

Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that 12 of its attorneys have been named among Business North Carolina magazine’s 2019 Legal Elite. Every North Carolina attorney has a chance to vote on the Legal Elite, resulting in a list the magazine describes as “the lawyers their peers think are the state’s best practitioners in their fields.”

Less than 3 percent of all practicing attorneys in the state were selected this year. Below are the Parker Poe attorneys and the categories they were recognized in.

Bankruptcy
Brian Darer is a partner in Parker Poe’s Raleigh office who has successfully represented creditors in hundreds of bankruptcies, foreclosures, and workouts. He also serves on the leadership team of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Bankruptcy Section and is a State Bar board certified specialist in business bankruptcy.

Business
Bill Pappas is a partner in Raleigh who has provided results-oriented corporate counsel for more than 30 years. He represents national and international clients in the life sciences, manufacturing, health care, and investment industries.

Construction
Jason Herndon is a partner in Raleigh who advises clients on construction claims litigation, dispute avoidance, and contract negotiation issues. He also serves as chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Construction Law Section.

Russell Killen is a partner in Raleigh whose practice focuses on construction and land development, including dispute resolution, contract negotiation, and project entitlement. Russell also serves on Parker Poe’s board of directors.

Employment
Patti Bartis
has defended employers facing discrimination claims for more than 20 years. Patti regularly assists employers with compliance, training, and drafting employment agreements and policies. She also serves as Parker Poe’s Raleigh Office Development Partner.

Environmental
Mary Katherine Stukes is a partner in Charlotte who advises clients on environmental issues involved in all types of business transactions. Mary Katherine also represents clients in environmental litigation and regulatory compliance issues.

Steve Weber is a partner in Charlotte who leads the firm’s Energy and Environmental Practice Group. Steve focuses his practice on environmental, administrative, and municipal law, with an emphasis on litigation and regulatory compliance.

Intellectual Property
Will Cannon
is a partner in Raleigh who helps clients negotiate technology contracts and safeguard their intellectual property rights. His work includes managing the trademark portfolios of several universities across North Carolina.

Real Estate
Jake Parrott, counsel in Raleigh, focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions that include the new development, acquisition, and sale of all commercial property types, as well as leasing, real estate financing, and lending.

Tax & Estate Planning
Andrew Dana is a partner in Charlotte who provides direct and efficient counsel with the goal of minimizing taxes, safeguarding assets, and assisting families in achieving the financial and lifestyle goals they set for themselves.

Young Guns
Sarah Hutchins is a partner in Charlotte who helps clients navigate business litigation, government investigations, and data privacy. She has a particularly deep understanding of the digital aspects of business disputes, including those involving trade secret misappropriation.

Jeffery Morris, counsel in Charlotte, represents clients in matters involving trusts, estate planning, estate administration, and taxation. His practice also includes providing guidance for specific issues related to partnerships, S corporations, and limited liability companies.
