Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that the North Carolina State Bar has honored retired partner Ashley Hogewood with the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award.

Ashley and his fellow award winners were recognized for “their work to enhance and strengthen legal education, to further the public’s understanding of and confidence in the rule of law and the justice system, to encourage professionalism among Bar members, and to assure equal access to our judicial system,” according to the State Bar.

Ashley is a longtime supporter of North Carolina’s education system. In the 1960s, North Carolina’s governor appointed Ashley to a legislative study commission on education. He later served 12 years on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, including as the board’s chair. He also served on Central Piedmont Community College’s board of trustees.

In addition, Ashley has served on the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections, as well as the boards for the Charlotte Area Fund, the American Lung Association, and what was then the Charlotte Chamber. He has received Mecklenburg County’s highest honor for community contributions, the Order of the Hornet.

At Parker Poe, Ashley established a reputation as a leading real estate and lending attorney, and he gave frequent lectures on those issues to industry and legal groups. The State Bar also noted he “maintains an excellent and often humorous mentoring relationship with young lawyers entering the profession.”
