Charlotte, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S. (GACC South) has honored the firm with the North Carolina Gateway Award. The award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of businesses and organizations in support of German American business.

Parker Poe has been a member of the German American Chamber of Commerce for almost 40 years. The firm created a dedicated International Practice Group in 1984 under the leadership of then-Charlotte partner Michael Almond. In the decades since, Parker Poe has continued its tradition of providing legal services to German companies and supporting organizations like the GACC in nurturing the transatlantic relationship at the business level, the policy level, and the personal level.

Charlotte partner Al Guarnieri accepted the award on behalf of Parker Poe. Al has been a member of the leadership team for the GACC’s North Carolina Chapter since its founding almost 20 years ago. He also serves as the chapter director for The American Council on Germany’s Charlotte Chapter.

“We at Parker Poe are so grateful for the relationships we have built in the German American community, and we are thrilled to accept the Gateway Award,” Al said. “Our law firm’s roots in German American business and culture are deep, and we look forward to continuing to support the transatlantic relationship in the years to come.”

Other members of Parker Poe’s International Practice are deeply involved in the German American community as well. Charleston partner Elizabeth Gibbes serves as honorary consul of Germany for South Carolina and Georgia. Elizabeth is a dual-national of German descent.

In addition, Columbia partner Sam Moses served on the GACC South’s board of directors for nearly a decade and continues to serve as a member of the leadership team of the GACC South Carolina Chapter, a role in which he has served for nearly 15 years. Earlier in his career, Sam served as managing director of the State of South Carolina's European Office, based in Munich, Germany. He is also a former Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow, which is a transatlantic leadership initiative advancing business and political ties between the United States and Germany.
