Carson Lane is an employment attorney who represents both large and small employers across a range of industries, including manufacturing, education, and health care. She has litigation experience defending employers against lawsuits arising under Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). She also counsels clients on issues related to pay, including bonus plans, wage and hour laws, and minimum wage as well as issues related to the departure of employees, including theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, non-solicitations, and noncompetes.
In addition, she has represented employers in dozens of administrative charges before the Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and North Carolina Department of Labor Retaliatory Employment Discrimination Bureau (REDA) against allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on age, race, gender, disability, religion, and national origin. Carson strives to not only find the best legal solutions to complex employment issues her clients face, but also to understand their industries and businesses.
In addition to defending employers in litigation and administrative actions, Carson also helps employers best position themselves to avoid legal actions in the first place by advising human resources professionals and other corporate executives on employee personnel actions, including hiring, discipline, and termination, conducting effective internal investigations into misconduct and criminal acts in the workplace.
Carson also counsels clients in health care, primarily focusing on physician practices. She advises those clients on employment agreements, and handbooks and policies, and drafts and negotiates physician compensation agreements.
Prior to joining Parker Poe, Carson practiced labor and employment law at an international law firm.
