Atlanta, GA – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education has selected Ashley Akins as an education policy fellow. The fellowship is a professional development program that aims to equip leaders with the knowledge and networks to advance the core issues of education policy. The program is designed to help develop leaders to advocate for and create sound public policy to improve public education.
Over the next 10 months, Ashley and 23 other fellows will learn and hear from policy makers from across Georgia and the country. This year’s cohort is comprised of higher education and K-12 district administrators and directors and others who represent early education and state school board entities.
At Parker Poe, Ashley focuses her practice on education law, representing K-12 school districts and private education entities. She actively litigates and counsels clients on matters of student discipline, special education, board governance, FERPA compliance, fair dismissal, employment law, workers' compensation, and various student due process issues. Ashley often conducts in-person training to special education and related service providers on all aspects of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
