Daniel Knight is a construction attorney who represents a diverse group of construction industry professionals in both litigation and transactions. His clients include private developers, national homebuilders, architects, engineers, land surveyors, general contractors, and local government units. Daniel has represented construction professionals in a broad array of lawsuits and disputes, including involving construction and design defects, payment disputes, mechanics’ lien claims, payment and performance bond claims, delay claims, and general contract disputes. He also frequently assists construction professionals and industry participants in contract negotiations.

Daniel also assists clients on public water and wastewater projects. He has advised local government units on public contracting requirements for North Carolina wastewater projects delivered via traditional design-bid-build, design-build, and design-build-bridging methods, as well as under the North Carolina Mini-Brooks Act. He has also assisted in the preparation of public requests for proposals (RFPs) and qualifications (RFQs).

In addition, Daniel advises both construction industry and real estate professionals on administrative law. He regularly defends real estate brokers against licensing complaints before the North Carolina Real Estate Commission and counsels construction professionals on licensing requirements, including general contractors, electrical contractors, and mechanical contractors. He has also defended general contractors against OSHA citations before the Safety and Health Review Commission of North Carolina.

Daniel frequently speaks to industry trade groups on various construction topics, including contract issues, the importance of insurance coverage, payment disputes, and delay claims. He has also served as a co-chair for the North Carolina Bar Association Construction Law Section’s United Minority Contractors of NC Joint Committee, CLE Committee, and Membership & Diversity Committee, as well as for the Insurance Law Section’s Blog Subcommittee and CLE Subcommittee.
