Eli Awbrey advises clients on eminent domain and condemnation proceedings, from pre-litigation acquisition negotiations and closings to mediations, special master hearings and jury trials. He assists Fortune 50 retailers and other regional and national property owners in monitoring condemnation exposure across their portfolios and navigating future potential impacts to their properties. He has also represented Georgia municipalities and agencies in condemnation proceedings, giving him well-rounded insights into eminent domain practice.
In addition, Eli helps Georgia public school districts and regional developers close real estate acquisitions, sales, and other transactions. This work complements his eminent domain practice, as he advises both on deals tied to pending proceedings and counsels on transactions unrelated to potential condemnations.
Before joining Parker Poe, Eli gained judicial experience as an intern for Justice Charlie J. Bethel of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Judge Richard W. Story of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and Judge Julie E. Carnes of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Eli also spent a semester with the University of Georgia's Capital Assistance Project, interning with the Georgia Capital Defenders office.
Eli earned a law degree and a bachelor's degree in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia. While in law school, Eli served as a notes editor for the Georgia Law Review. He grew up in Carrollton, Georgia. Outside of work, he enjoys jogging, pickup basketball, and pickleball.
